A Ritual Bath For You

There’s something magical about a ritual bath plunging our body into a fragrant warm bath of water. Through the ages, aromatic bathing has been accepted as a beautiful way to indulge our senses. Last night as a clearing to prepare for Lammas today here down under it was time to indulge in the deeply sacred and healing ritual of a bath! Imbolc in the Northern Hemisphere is the fire festival celebrating the returning light and the Goddess Brigid.

“Adrift is a warm and gentle sea of heavenly flowers, woods, herbs and spices” Cleopatra.

The Recipe:

2 cups Epsom salts

2 cups of sea salt

1/4 cup dried rose petals

1/4 cup dried lavender

6 drops lavender essential oil

6 drops of rose geranium or rose absolute essential oil

Mix the ingredients (it is preferable to have this sit once mixed in an airtight container for 48 hours – however, it is just as wonderful as a last-minute mix (that was me yesterday…)

For a ritual bath – place the ingredients in a cotton bag, so the flowers do not clog up your drain. (I use a recycled organic oats bag)

You can substitute nearly any dried flower or herb and Essential oils – ensure you have no known allergy as some are very potent. Take extra care with citrus essential oils, especially if you plan to go out into the sun soon after.

The Ritual:

We can have a ritual bath any time of year. Run a bath, light a few candles and play some beautiful music. Once the bath is full, you can either sprinkle the desired amount of the bath ritual directly into the water or like a cleaner option, fill the little cotton bag and submerge it into the water.

This ritual can enjoyed even if you don’t have a bath. Foot soaks are incredibly beneficial and relaxing, and all you need to do is pour a handful of the bath ritual into a bowl of warm water and soak your feet for at least 30 minutes.

Ritual cleansing and purification in saltwater baths are recommended in Ayurveda to cleanse the energetic body and ensures physical, mental and spiritual balance. Ayurveda is respected as one of the oldest systems of healing on our Earth Mother and offers us a dynamic and rich body of knowledge that cultivates balance and holistic wellness.
